How much do centerpieces cost?
We begin the process by giving you a complimentary estimate for the items and quantities that you need for your event.  The estimate is based on the average price of these items when made with seasonal flowers; however, your actual quote could be higher or lower, depending on the flower selections you make.  Unless they have lots of experience shopping for flowers, most couples find this to be a very helpful tool in the basic budget planning process.  If you already have a budget in mind, it can be a huge time-saver to share that with your Stylist so that they may guide you in flower selections to stay within your desired spending range.

A rose is not just a rose…
Assembling an artistic work such as a centerpiece or wedding bouquet is much like creating a gourmet meal.  Extensive knowledge of the ingredients and proportions of flavors to create balance is the key to success.  Just as a chef can adjust a recipe for salad, so can your floral Stylist.  The variety of ingredients and the quantity ratios are what determine the cost of your flowers.  For example, a $200 centerpiece of “roses & mums” might be very, very large if it is composed of primarily chrysanthemums with few roses.  Conversely, the same $200 may yield a smaller centerpiece when composed or more roses than mums, but may provide a completely different “flavor” to your event with the richness that roses provide.  As floral designers, creating a beautiful look for your wedding or special event requires significant planning and years of training and experience.    When you are shopping for flowers, you should definitely look for a knowledgeable floral Stylist to work with you to create your perfect ”recipe”.  They will be able to balance your wishes and requirements to get the most out of your budget, rather than just ‘take your order’.  Let us help you select flowers that will enhance your venue and be a stunning testament to your personal style.

What happens next?
After the telephone estimate, you may call us to schedule a complimentary consultation.  One of our Stylists will be dedicated to your event from beginning to end and making sure everything is in place.  We don’t want you to have to lift a finger on your special day.  At your initial meeting you can bring photos and share the details of your dream wedding and plan just the right look for your event.  We can help you do that with ease.  You should allow 1-2 hours for this personalized consultation.
Can I see what that looks like together?
At your consultation, you will be able to view swatch books, ribbon samples, glassware, rental items, linens, lighting and many many photographs of our work, shared graciously by happy brides.  You can also view many fresh flower varieties and take a tour of our production facility.  After you have worked with your Stylist and have contracted us for your event, we will gladly create one full scale sample arrangement for you to view in our showroom before finalizing your floral components.

How does the contract work?
If you would like to reserve our services for your wedding or event date, we require a signed contract and a $500-$1000 deposit.  This deposit is non-refundable, but will be applied to your balance after placing your order.  We accept only a limited number of events per weekend, so that we may focus our energy on perfect execution of your event.  Because popular weekends usually fill up very quickly, we recommend not waiting to book.  You do not need to have all your details decided just to book your date, just decide that you want to work with us.  If you should have changes to items, flowers or table counts, of course we will honor them.  The cut off for flower changes is approximately 30 days prior to your wedding when we are reserving flowers from the growers at the farm level.  The deadline for table counts and minor changes is more flexible and will be finalized in the week before the wedding.  We usually recommend leaving a credit card on file for any last minute additions to your order, such as when Aunt Sue suddenly is able to fly in from North Dakota to attend your wedding and needs a corsage to wear!

Martha Carrasco-Sheffield is an outstanding floral designer with over twenty years of design experience.  Considered our resident wedding expert, she has been helping clients have beautiful events for 17 of those years.  Her affinity for creativity and her clean design style has enabled her to make occasions of the everyday as well as to create breathtaking designs for special events and weddings.  More than anything else about her work, she loves to see the transformational quality of flowers come to fruition at a venue, making special days even more remarkable.  Martha@ashaddflorist.com

Meghan Riley is a trained floral designer & an excellent customer service advocate with an unfailing smile & terrific sense of humor.  After co-managing our downtown location and graduating from Roosevelt University with a degree in Hospitality Management & Event Planning, she has recently been promoted to our Wedding Department.  You can now find her at our Design Center sharing her creativity & planning skills with brides or with her sleeves rolled up designing exquisite floral pieces for our clients.  Meghan@ashaddflorist.com

Justin Sheffield is the newest Sheffield to join AAF making him the fourth generation to work in the family business.  With a BS in General Engineering from University of Illinois, he brings an eager smile and an efficient logic to our production processes.  He supports the Special Events Team by procuring hard goods such as glassware, candles and supplies, so that the Stylists can focus on the details of your occasion.

Bill Sheffield is “the man behind the curtain”.  Among other things, he spends his day sourcing the finest quality flowers from his grower contacts around the world.  He has visited and researched many farms on several continents to find sustainable growing practices and fair labor treatment.  He has cultivated secure relationships with each of these chosen growers and receives daily shipments of fresh product to our facility (bypassing the wholesale level) so that your flowers are the freshest available.

Jeff Wojtysiak is our veteran Delivery Logistics Coordinator and manages everything from daily delivery routes to staffing special event set-ups.   He works closely with Katie to ensure that all events are staffed appropriately and event flowers are delivered and installed properly.

Bridget Carlson is our expert marketer, showcasing our design work through our web site, newsletter, email marketing, social media and more!  Send images of your wedding to Bridget and you may find your wedding displayed on theknot.com, chicagostyleweddings.com or many local wedding online resources. Our Event Set Up Staff
Our mission to provide swift delivery and installations for our events is made possible by our stellar Delivery Team.  With great care, our seasoned staff package, carry, cart & display many floral works for varying special events.  Having an almost encyclopedic knowledge of Chicago’s streets and Venues, they work swiftly and courteously to handle and install your flowers at their final destination.  Some of our invaluable AAF team members are: Ron, Vic, Vic Jr, Will, Gloria, Robert, John, Hilario & Martin.

Mari & Cristina comprise our Flower Processing Department.  They are responsible for receiving flower shipments from around the world, unpacking, defoliating & hydrating each bundle as it arrives.  They maintain the AAF quality standards by weeding out any sub-standard blooms.  They also carefully stage all the wedding flowers to be at just the right degree of blossom development to ensure quality & fullness.

Winston is the newest family member of Ashland Addison.  He is a young King Charles with the sweetest of personalities.  He is our mascot, our clown…and our very ferocious security guard!  His favorite flower is an orchid, and he eats as many as he can get his little paws on.
